The Bahá'í community of Los Altos
We are a diverse group of families, youth, and individuals who live, work, and raise our children here in Los Altos. Together with our friends and neighbors, we strive to put into practice the teachings of Bahá'u'lláh — building relationships of love, inclusion, and reciprocity, and contributing to the well-being of the wider community.

The Bahá'í Faith
A faith centered on unity
The Bahá'í Faith is a world religion whose purpose is to unite all races and peoples in one universal cause and one common faith. At its heart are three interconnected truths.

The Oneness of God
Called by different names throughout the ages, the eternal God, the Creator of the universe, is limitless, all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-loving.

The Oneness of Religion
Truth is revealed by God progressively through a series of divine Messengers — among them Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad, and, in this age, Bahá'u'lláh — each suited to the needs of humanity in their time.

The Oneness of Humanity
We are all one human family. The challenges facing our world can only be resolved when we embrace this spiritual truth and act upon it.

Bahá'u'lláh
Bahá'u'lláh — whose name means “the Glory of God” — was born in Tehran in 1817. Bahá'ís believe Him to be the most recent in the line of Messengers of God who have guided humanity throughout history.
Over some four decades He revealed thousands of verses, letters, and books that outline a framework for the development of a global civilization, one that takes into account both the spiritual and material dimensions of human life.
His teachings hold the spiritual principles that can guide humanity toward justice and a universal, lasting peace — and the power to reawaken and unite the peoples of the world.

Community life in Los Altos
Open to everyone
Like Bahá'ís in neighborhoods across the country, we take part in a unified process of community building. These core activities are held in homes and community spaces, and all are welcome — no affiliation required.
Devotional Gatherings
Friends of every background come together in homes to share prayers and readings from the world's sacred scriptures, nurturing the spiritual life of our neighborhood.
Children's Classes
Warm, joyful classes that help children develop spiritual qualities such as kindness, truthfulness, and generosity through stories, songs, art, and memorization.
Junior Youth Groups
Young people aged roughly 11 to 14 build their powers of expression, strengthen their moral character, and carry out acts of service for their community.
Study Circles
Small groups of adults and youth study a sequence of courses together, exploring spiritual themes and building capacity to serve those around them.
Rhythm of the year
The Nineteen Day Feast
The Bahá'í calendar has nineteen months of nineteen days each. On the first day of every month, our community comes together for the Feast — a gathering with a devotional portion of prayers and readings, a time of consultation on the affairs of the community, and a social portion of fellowship and hospitality.
Celebration
Bahá'í Holy Days
Throughout the year we commemorate Holy Days such as Naw-Rúz (the Bahá'í New Year), the Festival of Riḍván, and the Twin Holy Days celebrating the births of the Báb and Bahá'u'lláh. These are joyful occasions, and we are always glad to share them with friends and neighbors.
